Congress hails single-phase polling in Karnataka

March 06, 2014 10:09 am | Updated May 19, 2016 06:35 am IST - BANGALORE:

The State Congress has welcomed the Election Commission’s decision to hold Lok Sabha polls in the State in a single phase on April 17.

KPCC president G. Parameshwara told presspersons here on Wednesday that polling in two or more phases would have created hardship, not only to political leaders but also to the electorate. “The peaceful atmosphere in the State must have influenced the commission to conduct the poll on a single day,” he said.

The commission conducted the Assembly elections in Karnataka on a single day in May 2013.

Noting that the party machinery in the State was ready to face the challenge, he said: “The KPCC had launched election preparedness long ago, and the rank and file of the party is read to face the elections.”

The party high command will announce the party’s nominees to a few constituencies in a couple of days. “We have already asked the probable candidates to go ahead with their preparations to face elections,” he said.
