Congress govt. trying to hush up illegal lottery case: Shettar

Leader of Opposition in Legislative Assembly Jagadish Shettar has alleged that the Congress Government in the State was trying to hush-up the illegal lottery case.

Like in the multi-crore fake stamp paper racket that was busted in 2001, many influential politicians and top police officers enjoy nexus with those running the illegal lottery racket, he alleged. It is unfortunate that the State government has failed to act with an iron hand against those involved in the scam, he said at a press conference here on Monday.

The government had suspended Inspector General of Police Alok Kumar and Superintendent of Police Dharanesh for allegedly having links with those involved in the scam. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in its interim report has mentioned the involvement of a few more top police officers in the scam. The government should make public the interim report and suspend all the officials who were indicted in it, he said.

As persons outside Karnataka are also suspected to be involved in the racket, the State government should hand over the probe to the Central Bureau of Investigation to bring out the truth, Mr. Shettar said.

Shikaripur MLA B.Y. Raghavendra, MLC M.B. Bhanuprakash, and president of Bharatiya Janata Party district unit S. Dattatri were present.
