Karnataka Janata Paksha (KJP) president B.S. Yeddyurappa on Thursday said that the Congress should not forget that it won at least 23 seats because of division of votes between the KJP and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
After his hopes of having a say in the next government sunk because of the Congress getting a comfortable number while his party got only six, Mr. Yeddyurappa told presspersons here that the KJP candidates stood second in at least 35 constituencies and dented the prospects of the BJP.
The party had performed considerably well and secured a good number of votes, he said. “We have secured 10 percentage of the vote share in the Assembly elections, that too within five months of the formation of the party. We are confident of getting the tag of a regional party,” he said.
To questions on his rejoining the BJP, and also the BJP Central leaders’ statements about the party’s willingness to have him back, Mr. Yeddyurappa said that the leaders were free to make comments. He said that there was no question of him going back to the BJP. His party had started working for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, he added.
Meanwhile, the KJP has organised a convention of its elected MLAs and candidates who contested the Assembly elections in Bangalore on May 23. The convention would discuss the ways and means of strengthening of the party, Mr. Yeddyurappa said.
