Congress does a BJP with Dinakar Shetty

March 25, 2014 02:44 pm | Updated November 27, 2021 06:54 pm IST - MANGALORE:

Close on the heels of the uproar over Sri Rama Sene convener Pramod Muthalik joining the Bharatiya Janata Party and subsequent nullification of the development, the District Congress on Monday admitted Dinakar Shetty into the party, an accused in the Mangalore pub attack.

There was much criticism over the BJP admitting Mr. Muthalik into the party fold on Monday, resulting in the party’s central leadership intervening and setting it aside. Mr. Shetty, a former legal adviser of Sri Rama Sene, was among the many persons who joined the Congress on Monday. Mr. Shetty has been named as accused No. 28 in the pub attack case. In the charge sheet filed in the case, the police had accused Mr. Shetty and others of abetting the assault, molestation and trespassing. Mr. Muthalik, accused No. 33 in the case, was also charged with abetting the attack.

The charge sheet was questioned before the Karnataka High Court, which granted stay on January 6, 2011.
