Congress did not hanker after publicity: Siddaramaiah

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah appears to be a happy man for “successfully” governing the State for the last 18 months after the Congress party came to power. He stated this in the Legislative Assembly here on Friday at the time of replying to the plans of the government to ensure all-round development of north Karnataka and the ones that have been already implemented.

“I am satisfied with my work in the last 18 months”, he said. He could achieve the goals despite criticism from the Opposition parties, Mr. Siddaramaiah said. Of the 195 assurances held out by the Congress party in its election manifesto, the government had fulfilled as many as 165, Mr. Siddaramaiah claimed.

However, referring to a point indirectly that his government faced criticism, Mr. Siddaramaiah said, ‘We did not hanker after publicity to popularise our programmes and achievements.’ Without naming anyone, he referred to his political adversaries who had “lost out” after they went big on publicity.

The very fact that people came in large numbers to his monthly Janata Darshan programme spoke of the popularity of his government in which common people participated wholeheartedly. ‘They (common people) are the voice of the land’ and their problems ought to be addressed, he said.

The Chief Minister stated that he would welcome both criticism of his government as also suggestions. May be, when criticisms do crop up those who hurled it would not have had proper information on the subject or there could have been a communication gap, Mr. Siddaramaiah noted.
