Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president G. Parameshwara has termed the decision by the Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs loyal to the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa to resign from their posts, a political drama.
“I don’t think Mr. Yeddyurappa is keen on bringing down the government. The threat by the legislators to resign was an effort to blackmail Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar,” he said at the district-level convention of the Congress held here on Wednesday.
Mr. Yeddyurappa could have drawn curtains on the BJP government six months ago, but he was reluctant to take a firm decision. Mr. Yeddyurappa has entered into a secret pact with BJP leaders, he said. He demanded Mr. Yeddyurappa make public his present political stand.
Addressing the convention, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah also called the decision by the MLAs as a gimmick.
In the past, Mr. Yeddyurappa had issued contradictory statements on bringing down the BJP government. The Ministers loyal to Mr. Yeddyurappa hold key portfolios.
As Mr. Yeddyurappa, who has launched a new political party, is in dire need of resources, he will not venture to destabilise the government at this juncture, he said.
If the MLAs loyal to Mr. Yeddyurappa are serious about brining down the government, they should seek the Governor’s intervention for acceptance of their resignations, he said.
