Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday said that he will embark on a Janashirvada Yatra organised by the Congress party in March, on the eve of the State Legislative Assembly elections.

Mr. Siddaramaiah, who came to power after leading the Congress’s 320-km padayatra from Bengaluru to Ballari in 2012 against the ‘misrule’ of the then BJP government and plundering of natural resources by the Reddy brothers, said all leaders, including the State Congress president G. Parameshwara, would participate in the Yatra.

The State is expected to go to the polls in April/May.

Speaking to presspersons after the farewell function of Chief Secretary Subhash Chandra Kuntia, who is retiring on November 30, Mr. Siddaramaiah said he would further step up his district tour programme from December 13.

Hitting out at the BJP for its Parivarthana Yatra, the he said unlike the Opposition, “we are ruling the State. We have to clear files and deliver services to the people.” Keeping all factors into account, it was decided to launch the Janashirvada Yatra in March, he said.

Earlier, Mr. Siddaramaiah had proposed to undertake the a month-long yatra from December 15. But Mr. Parameshwara said he would not take part in it since it was undertaken by the government. Later, the party high command directed the Chief Minister and KPCC to undertake the Janashirvada Yatra together.
