Cong. Ministers meet Venugopal to explain absence at party meeting

A day after Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president G. Parameshwara’s complaint about poor turnout of Ministers at the party’s meeting on Tuesday, a few Ministers lined up to meet AICC General Secretary in-charge of Karnataka K.C. Venugopal at the Kumara Krupa Guest House here to explain the reason for their absence.

Ministers H. Anjaneya, K.R. Ramesh Kumar, and Priyank Kharge called on Mr. Venugopal after the latter cracked a whip saying that leaders should give up their jobs if they were not interest in party work.

Only five Ministers attended yesterday’s party meeting and this has irked Mr. Venugopal and Mr. Parameshwara. The latter complained to the AICC leader that several Ministers do not show interest in party programmes and functions and this has sent a wrong message to the party workers.

Meanwhile, Mr. Venugopal held discussions with intellectuals of the party and obtained their views on the poll strategy. Former Minister B.T. Lalitha Naik and others met the Congress leader and expressed their views about the performance of the Congress government and the party.
