State vice-president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Minority Cell Rahim Uchil has accused the Congress of instigating communal violence in the coastal region with the sheer intention of taking political mileage in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday, Mr. Uchil, who is a former chairman of the Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy, said that despite being in a responsible position, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was engineering a communal split instead of striving to promote harmony. He said that Mr. Siddaramaiah should apologise to the people of the State for his alleged role in instigating violence in Dakshina Kannada.
Muslims have been supporting the Congress since long. But the Congress has not done anything for their welfare. The Congress always treats Muslims as mere vote bank. There has been a scandal worth ₹ two lakh crore involving WAKF property. Popular schemes such as Shaadi Bhagya have failed to benefit Muslims. To cover up its failure, the Congress was trying to provoke Muslims. Even the government’s decision to celebrate Tipu Jayanti was aimed at creating a division in society, he added.
Mr. Uchil said that there would be no scope for any trouble if the government tackled communal violence in an impartial manner. It should detain the real culprits irrespective of their faith. But it was not happening. Forest Minister B. Ramanath Rai was equally responsible for the law and order problems in that district. Everything would turn normal if Mr. Rai is sent out of his home district, Mr. Uchil said.
