January 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - DHARWAD/HUBBALLI:

Minister in-charge of the district Dinesh Gundu Rao has said that he is confident about completing the work on the bus rapid transit system (BRTS) project between Hubballi and Dharwad by June next year.

Delivering the Republic Day address here on Monday, he said that 10 of the 11 work packages of this Rs. 692-crore project had been started.

The land acquisition process too was under progress and it would be completed soon. Mr. Dinesh Gundu Rao said that the second phase of the 24x7 drinking water supply project for the city was under progress and it was expected to be completed by 2018. Mr. Rao received the guard of honour and honoured government officals with the district level Sarvottama Seva awards.

Mr. Rao has said that urban infrastructure development works in the State have been hit owing to the delay in releasing funds by the Union government.

Speaking to presspersons on the sidelines of the Republic Day programme here on Monday, he said that Rs. 2,500-crore works under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission were affected in Bengaluru and Mysuru as the Union government had not yet released the funds. The State government was not in a position to start any new work.

Focus would be on completion of ongoing works within stipulated time, he said.

Cultural festivities

Children from various schools added colour to the Republic Day celebrations organised by the taluk administration at Nehru Stadium in Hubballi.

A mock drill from the Fire Service Department, especially the operation of the sky lift machine, was the centre of attraction.
