Janata Dal (Secular) MLC Basavaraj Horatti has expressed concern over the growing crime rate and traffic problems in Hubballi city and urged the government to initiate corrective steps.

Speaking to presspersons here on Sunday, Mr. Horatti said that the crime rate was increasing alarmingly in the city.

“According to the information collected by me, the city had witnessed 16 cases of murder in the last one-and-a-half years. But most of these cases have remained unresolved. We have raised this issue with the authorities concerned but in vain. Similarly, the traffic condition is turning from bad to worse. Along with the bad conditions of roads, mismanagement of traffic is landing motorists in trouble,” he said.

Protest

Janata Dal (S) will hold a protest here and in Dharwad on April 7 and 13, respectively over these issues. The Janata Dal (S) was compelled to hold the protest as the authorities concerned did not heed to the repeated appeals to set right the problems, Mr. Horatti said.

Mr. Horatti also expressed reservation over the style of functioning of Minister in-charge of the district Vinay Kulkarni and said that Mr. Kulkarni “is least bothered about development of the twin cities. After taking charge as Minister he has not convened a single meeting of the elected representatives and officers. He is the main contributor to the growing civic issues in the twin cities.”
