The Rural Development and Panchayat Raj department has sent a proposal for the comprehensive drinking water supply scheme for all the 126 villages and 14 Tandas (hamlets) in Jewargi taluk in Kalaburagi district to the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) for studying the feasibility and viability of the project.
Official sources told “The Hindu” in Kalaburagi city on Monday that the a Bengaluru-based consultant had prepared the master plan for the project leaving out the villages already covered under the multi-village drinking water supply scheme.
The project, a brain child of the Jewargi MLA Ajay Singh, was undertaken by the Dharam Singh Foundation with a main motto of finding a permanent solution to the drinking water shortages in the rural areas once and for all. Jewargi taluk was one of the taluks in the district where a considerable number of villages faced shortage of drinking water during summer months. According to the rough estimates prepared by the consultant, the cost of the comprehensive drinking water project for the entire Jewargi Taluk was Rs. 350 crore.
