Committee plans protest; seeks flyover at rail crossing

July 05, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:57 am IST - Hassan:

The Hassan Railway Flyover Struggle Committee has decided to stage a protest march in Hassan on July 15 seeking a flyover at the railway crossing on Hassan-Holenarasipur road near KSRTC bus stand.

Leaders of the committee C.S. Krishnaswamy, R.P. Venkateshamurthy, B. Chandrashekhar and Veerabhadrappa, in a press conference in Hassan on Saturday, said that the march would start at the railway gate and conclude at the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

“As the bus stand is located on the Hassan-Holenarasipur road, the number of vehicles on the road has increased. The new court complex is also coming up in the same stretch. When the gate is closed vehicles are stranded for more than half an hour,” said Mr. Venkateshmurthy.

People of Hassan have been demanding a flyover since the plan for constructing a bus stand in the outskirts was conceived. “We will continue the protest until the demand is met,” the leader said.

Mr. Venkateshamurthy pointed out that many people opposed constructing the bus stand outside the city. “But the rulers did not listen to the public. Now entry of long route KSRTC buses into the city has been restricted. This affects public as they have to spend extra money to reach their places after getting down at the bus stand. Common people have been made to suffer for the mistakes committed by the rulers,” he said.
