‘Commando’ Shivappa gets President’s Police Medal

The 41-year-old Shivappa V. Nilankar, who has been awarded the prestigious President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service, is first and youngest constable to receive the President’s Police Medal from the entire Hyderabad Karnataka region.

Shivappa is popularly known as “Commando” Shivappa by his colleagues and friends for being trained in weapons and VVIP security under the National Security Guards (NSG) along with one-year-training under the Special Protection Group (SPG) in New Delhi. He is also is an established athlete and was selected to the police force immediately after completing his SSLC under sports quota.

Hailing from Dornahalli in Shahapur taluk in Yadgir district and father two, Shivappa, has spent most of his service life in crime detection squad, VVIP security, Lokayukta and has been promoted to the post of Head Constable. He is currently working with the District Special Branch, gathering intelligence and keeping tab on anti-social elements.

For his role in crime detection in the district, while working with the Crime Detection Squad, Shivappa was awarded the Chief Minister’s Silver Medal and in 2010, he was awarded the Chief Minister’s Gold Medal. Incidentally, Mr. Shivappa is also the only police personnel to received the Chief Minister’s medal twice from Hyderabad Karnataka region.

Mr. Shivappa along with Mohammed Mohsin, Inspector Wireless Control room in Kalaburagi, was honoured at the 66th Republic Day celebration by the Municipal administration and Minority Affairs Minister Qamarul Islam and other dignitaries present on the occasion.
