R. Vishal, Deputy Commissioner, said on Monday that teachers would be appointed on contract basis to supervise educational needs of children coming from the most backward Koraga community, a Scheduled Tribe, in the district.
He was presiding over a meeting on the healthcare and education needs of Koraga community at the District Offices Complex here.
Dr. Vishal directed the officials of the Integrated Tribal Development Project (ITDP) and Department of Public Instruction to appoint two teachers in each of the five assembly constituencies on a trial basis.
These teachers should visit all the houses of Koraga community every morning and encourage them to attend schools. They should also encourage them to study during the evenings.
He also directed the ITDP officials to include the 2,600 Koraga families under the Yashaswini scheme and Vajpayee Arogyashri health scheme. The Koraga families with below the poverty line cards should have access to free healthcare treatment.
The details of healthcare schemes should be published in handbills and distributed among all Koraga families in the district. A Nodal Assistant to coordinate all programmes related to the Koraga community should be appointed in all three taluks – Udupi, Kundapur and Karkala.
In the interests of comprehensive development of the Koraga community including providing education and healthcare facilities, a survey of the community in the district would be conducted and a database would be developed, Dr. Vishal said.
Premnath, ITDP officer, Diwakar Shetty, Deputy Director of Public Instruction, Rohini, District Health Survelliance Officer, Ganesh Koraga, leader of Koraga community, and others were present.
Dr. Vishal distributed schools bags, clothes, and various sports equipment, to the students of the Ashram School from Kumbhashi on the occasion.
