The board of management of the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK), which met here on Wednesday, decided to withhold the results of candidates allegedly involved in the seat-blocking racket.
Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths arrested seven more persons on Tuesday, including five students. With this, the total number of arrests made so far has gone up to 35.
The scam came to light on Sunday when Central Industrial Security Force personnel at the Kempegowda International Airport detained 28 students when they were trying to flee to their respective States after attending COMEDK Undergraduate Entrance Test (UGET) earlier in the day. The students allegedly wrote the exam and scored well to secure seats in reputed colleges. They would get admitted and pay the fee but would withdraw at the last hour to help the management make use of the vacant seat, sources said.
The COMEDK board decided that the results of those involved would be withheld once the consortium was provided the names and admission tickets of such candidates. The UGET holds key for admissions to private-quota seats in 14 medical, 25 dental and over 160 engineering colleges in the State. This year, there are 17,698 engineering seats, 835 medical seats and 766 dental seats available.
The COMEDK, in a press note, said several preventive measures had been taken to curb malpractices. The investigating agency was yet to provide details of a similar scam busted during the last year’s UGET to it, the COMEDK said.
