Relieved: Students coming out after writing COMEDK-2017, at an examination centre in Bengaluru on Sunday.

Nearly 59,000 students made a beeline for the tense environs of their examination centre as COMEDK-2017, for admissions to private engineering colleges in the State, was held across the country on Sunday.

The exam was conducted in 290 centres spread across 132 cities in India. In Karnataka, the entrance test for undergraduate courses was conducted in 115 centres in 26 cities. According to COMEDK authorities, of the registered 70,655 candidates across the country, 58,932 took the examinations. In Karnataka, of the 26,568 registered, 22,484 candidates wrote the test.

While the examination was by and large peaceful with no cases of malpractices reported, three centres in Bengaluru saw a delay in login. Apart from this, a few students reported problems in their online test. “The computer crashed about three times, but fortunately, it was programmed in such a way that the time allotted automatically stops. So, we did not lose any time,” said Aishwarya Ganesh from National Public School. A release said the built-in mechanism negates effects of delayed login and no student was left short of allotted time.

For many students, COMEDK was easier than other examinations of CET and JEE that was conducted earlier this month. “Mathematics was the most difficult section for me,” said Anusha Hande, a student.

The examination sees large-scale participation of candidates from outside the State, for whom COMEDK is the sole entrance test to engineering colleges in Karnataka. “I came all the way from U.P. just to give this exam...it was hectic getting to the examination hall as I do not Bengaluru at all, but the examination went well,” said Rishi Prakash.

Having come all the way from Jharkhand, Prasan Jeet said: “I came in the morning to Bengaluru. I was nervous as I have not written any other competitive examination. But it went well.”

While the provisional answer keys will be available on May 18 and the final answer key on May 26, the scorecards will be announced on May 29.
