The Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Ltd. (CNNL) has taken up work to deepen the right bank low-level canal near the Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) on Monday.

Water is being pumped to Mysore from the Hongalli pumping station through the canal. However, owing to poor storage level at the KRS, the flow has stopped since Monday noon.

The water-level at the reservoir dipped to 63.20 ft at 7 p.m. on Monday. “The water cannot flow into the canal as it has fallen to 64 ft. Hence we began the work to deepen it,” an official at the CNNL said.

The CNNL has to release water at the rate of 1,100 cusecs to Bangalore, Mysore, Mandya, Ramanagaram and Bangalore rural districts. The agency has deployed around 20 labourers to remove boulders, silt and mud from the canal.

It may be completed by Tuesday noon, said sources.
