With many Congress leaders seeking a change in leadership in the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is expected to leave for New Delhi on Saturday to hold discussions with the party’s central leadership, sources said.
With the Assembly elections less than a year away, the State Congress leaders have been urging the top leaders to appoint a full-time president for the KPCC by April-end.
The All-India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary in-charge of Karnataka, Digvijaya Singh, had discussed the matter with many leaders during his recent visit to the city.
As the current KPCC chief, G. Parameshwara, has completed six years in office, Mr. Siddaramaiah is said to be in favour of a Lingayat leader as his successor, particularly S.R. Patil from north Karnataka. However, several leaders, including Energy Minister D.K. Shivakumar, are keen on landing the post, sources said.
