Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has again appealed to the farmers not to resort to the extreme step, reiterating that the State government is with them.

“Committing suicide is not the solution to your problem. The government is with you and has been initiating steps to help the community, including payment of your share to become members of cooperative societies to help you get loans. We are also implementing the Yashaswini health insurance scheme. I have directed deputy commissioners and superintendents of police to initiate action against money lenders who are harassing farmers for recovering dues,” he said.

Mr. Siddaramaiah was addressing a public meeting after inaugurating a multi-speciality hospital constructed by JSW steels and laying the foundation stone for a multi-village drinking water supply scheme here on Saturday. He said he was proud of being identified as a “Chief Minister of farmers, Dalits, backward classes and minorities.”

Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Srikshetra Dharmasthala, appealed to farmers to take benefits of government schemes to improve their living conditions. “Farmers should not resort to committing suicide. Instead, they should make use of the schemes and be a partner in progress instead of being a mere beneficiary,” he said.

P.T. Parmeshwar Naik, Minister of State for Labour and district incharge; U.T. Khader, Minister for Health, H.C.
