Chief Minister Siddaramaiah reviewed the drinking water situation in the district here on Friday and directed the administration to take measures to redress the situation.
He said water was being supplied through tankers to many villages in Yelwal, Kavalande and other hoblis as there was no major source of water.
Mr. Siddaramaiah said the emphasis was on finding a permanent solution to the drinking water problem as the problem cropped up every year and also as the groundwater table too had depleted.
Mr. Siddaramaiah said if the Kabini drinking water project, which supplies water to parts of the city, could be linked to drought-prone areas, about 40 villages could benefit and he had held discussions with engineers and officials in this connection.
Commenting on the drought scenario in the State, he said 1,086 villages had an acute drinking water problem and 10,500 villages were drought affected. He said the government had pressed 1,255 tankers into service and released Rs. 516 crore for the purpose.
“Drinking water supply is a priority and control rooms have been set up at the district and taluk levels and the nodal officer should attend any complaint within 24 hours,” he said.
On the expansion of the Cabinet and appointment of Chairmen to various boards and corporations, the Chief Minister said it would be done soon after results of the election are declared.
