Cloak room required

March 30, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST

Sir, — The city of Kalaburagi is considered one of fastest growing cities in the State with its population nearing the one-million mark. It has two universities and an ESIC health complex. Being a divisional headquarter, it has numerous government offices. The Hyderabad Karnataka Region Development Board is also functioning here. Obviously, the influx of people for various reasons is significant. But the city is yet to be equipped with some features. Although, the railway station has four platforms, there is no cloak room. People visiting Kalaburagi find it difficult to keep their baggage safe. They are left with no other option but to take a room in a hotel, even if their visit is for a few hours. Absence of one more foot overbridge at the station is also causing hardship during rush hours. Hope the Railways takes note of this and addresses the problem soon.

Mudgal Venkatesh,

Kalaburagi

Good job, Lokayukta

Sir, — On behalf of law-abiding and patriotic citizens, I congratulate the Lokayukta, the Upalokayukta and the teams in different districts for conducting regular raids to catch corrupt officials and unearth ill-gotten money. I need not stress that people have a lot of hopes on the institution of Lokayukta, and wish that all corrupt officials are caught at the earliest and punished. I am glad to see the Lokayukta system doing its duty with dedication. I fervently hope that the Lokayukta plays an important role in reducing corruption with its unstinted efforts.

Basavaraj Modi,

Reiteration of freedom

of expression

Sir, — The Supreme Court has, by declaring Section 66A of Information Technology Act unconstitutional, once again reiterated that freedom of speech and expression can by no means be compromised. Section 66A was being grossly misused by the police at the behest of politicians to arrest persons posting on social networking sites critical comments on socio-political issues and political leaders.

Ironically, while in the Opposition, the BJP projected itself as being all for democratic values but once in power its appears to have taken a ‘U’ turn. People today are scared of expressing their opinion for fear of being targeted or facing retribution from the powers to be. It is incumbent on every citizen to be a watchdog and keep the erring authorities under check.

Aires Rodrigues,

Goa
