City to host International Congress on Sericulture

The city will host a four-day International Congress on Sericulture and Silk Industry on the theme ‘Silk for inclusive growth’ from November 24. Organised by the International Sericultural Commission (ISC), the event will be held at Hotel Leela Palace on HAL Airport Road.

Speaking to presspersons here on Thursday, ISC Secretary General and Member Secretary Central Silk Board, Ishita Roy, said over 250 delegates comprising policy planners, representatives from international organisations, scientists, technocrats resources persons university faculty, silk exports and traders and silk machinery manufactures from about 30 countries would participate.

Ms. Roy said the Congress would be inaugurated by Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala. Secretary to Government of India, Ministry of Textiles, Sanjay Kumar Panda will deliver key note address. On the occasion three eminent scientists would be presented with the prestigious Louis Pasteur award. Minister of State for Textiles, Santhosh Kumar Gangawar will deliver the valedictory address on November 26.

The event would also witness the official enrolment of People’s Republic of Bangladesh and Democratic People’s Republic of Korea as the Member countries of the ISC, Ms. Roy said.

As part of the 23 International Congress, a seven-day Silk Mark International Silk Expo-2014 has also been organised from November 21 to 27 at Safina Plaza, on Bhagawan Mahaveer Road, Ms. Roy added.
