Thousands of citizens under the banner of Tipu Sultan Sangha and the All-India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) party took out a rally through major streets of Raichur and staged a peaceful demonstration outside the office of the Deputy Commissioner here on Saturday, to observe the 22nd anniversary of Babri Masjid demolition as Black Day.
The agitating youth accused “criminals” of "destroying a place of worship on December 6, 1992," and demanded the "reconstruction of the structure on the same site and position for safeguarding Indian democracy and secularism.”
They raised slogans against Bharatiya Janata Party leaders L.K. Advani, Murali Manohar Joshi, and Vinay Katiyar for their alleged involvement in demolishing the historical structure.
“Despite committing to the Supreme Court of India that no harm and damage would be caused to the Babri Masjid, the karsevaks demolished the place of worship. Though the Liberhan Commission found many BJP leaders including L.K. Advani, Murali Manohar Joshi, Kalyan Singh and others guilty, no action has been taken against them even 15 years after the Commission submitted its report to the then Prime Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 1999,” they alleged.
They also raised questions about the then Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao for allowing the "historical crime" to take place.
The protesters held that the demolition of Babri Masjid was a serious blow to the secular fabric of the nation.
A memorandum addressed to the President of India, the Prime Minister, the Karnataka Governor and the Karnataka Chief Minister was submitted to the office of the Deputy Commissioner.
