Chickballapur Superintendent of Police Divya has suspended Chintamani Rural Circle Inspector of Police Venkateshamurthy on charges of dereliction of duty in a case of sexual assault. Mr. Venkateshamurthy has been charged with not conducting proper investigation in the case, which took place at a village under Batlahalli Rural Police limits on September 2013. It was alleged that the official did not send the clothing of the victim deliberately to the forensic laboratory. Action was initiated in tune with the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.

Ms. Divya ordered the suspension after looking into a report submitted by Deputy Superintendent of Police Sannathimmappa inquiring into the allegations against Mr. Venkateshamurthy.

The report had recommended for suspension on the grounds of dereliction of duty.

The official is also facing charges of helping sand mafia by extorting money from sand trucks as well as demanding bribe from members of the public who approached the station with complaints.
