The State Government on Tuesday ordered Criminal Investigation Department (CID) into suspicious death of IAS officer D.K. Ravi, Additional Commissioner of Commercial Taxes (Enforcement).

Ravi was found dead in his apartment near Koramangala on Monday evening under mysterious circumstances.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah told the Legislative Assembly that the CID probe would be conducted into “unnatural” death of Ravi. An interim probe report would be placed before the House before end of the ongoing session.

He said Ravi was a sincere and committed IAS officer. Ravi, who was the Deputy Commissioner of Kolar, was transferred to Bengaluru following a request from his father-in-law Hanumantharayappa. He was posted to the Commercial Tax Department and recently raided several realty and jewellery firms for evading taxes, the Chief Minister said.

According to police, Mr. Siddaramaiah said “prima facie Ravi appeared to have committed suicide. However, details of the death would be known only after completion of the probe”.

Opposition BJP and JD (S) members demanded a CBI probe since Ravi belonged to Central Cadres (IAS). Ravi belonged to 2009 IAS batch.

Dissatisfied with the reply, BJP members raised slogans against the Government and staged a ‘dharna’ in the House.
