It was a children’s day out at the Mysore zoo and the Dasara Exhibition grounds on Friday. Children thronged the two tourist spots as entry was free on the occasion of Children’s Day.

Many schoolchildren had come in groups accompanied by their teachers. Some came with their families. However, entry was free only for children.

A senior officer at the zoo told The Hindu that entry was free up to 1 p.m. and around 15,000 children were expected to have visited the zoo. “This is the one of the biggest turn-out the zoo had witnessed on a single day in the recent years,” he said, adding that the children watched their favourite animals and had fun.

About 8,000 to 10,000 children visited the Dasara exhibition grounds. Karnataka Exhibition Authority executive officer Basavaraj said around 8,000 biscuit packets and chocolates were distributed free to children. Drinking water arrangements had been made and all necessary precautionary measures such as security, a team of doctor and nurses, were also made.

The entry to the expo was free to encourage children’s participation. They visited the stalls put up and the amusement games.
