The district Child Protection Committee (CPC) has issued notice to the Vijayi Karnataka Residential PU College managing committee chairman Baburao Shegunshi in connection with an assault on a student.
District Child Protection Officer Usha said that the notice was issued based on a complaint by the student, Vijayakumar B. Biradar, who was allegedly assaulted and debarred from the residential school by Mr. Shegunshi recently. Ms. Usha visited the residential college and conducted an inspection here on Saturday.
She said that the assault was in violation of child rights, as per Section 23 of the Juvenile Justice Act. Moreover, voluntary organisations and residential institutes meant for children have to compulsorily register with the Karnataka State Integrated Child Protection Committee.
However, the college management had failed to produce documents regarding registration.
Hence, the college has to take steps to register their institute with the society and submit all documents to the society office immediately, failing which the CPC will recommend to the Karnataka State Child Rights Commission for necessary action, the notice said.
