Child branding case: No improvement in child's health

The condition of the eight-day-old child, who is suffering from a severe case of septicaemia, remains unchanged.

The child suffered infection after being branded eight times and is undergoing treatment at the Intenstive Care Unit (ICU) of the Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) hospital here.

The baby is a victim of ‘superstitious belief’. The boy’s parents had branded the child eight times under the belief that the child would remain healthy. Burns, as a result of branding with hot metal led to septicaemia besides infecting the respiratory system and blood circulation.

Dr. Srinivasulu, Hospital Superintendent, told The Hindu on Thursday that there has been no improvement in the condition of the child and continued to be on ventilator support and drugs.
