Mother and child are safe and healthy, says District Surgeon

A woman gave birth to a boy in the toilet of Udupi Railway Station on Tuesday.

The woman, Vijaya, wife of Raju from Kumta in Uttara Kannada District, was visiting relatives in Manipal when she alighted from the train at the Udupi Railway Station and went to the toilet. She suddenly labour pains and gave birth to the baby.

Soon after receiving this news, Vishu Shetty, a social worker, rushed to the Railway Station with 108 Ambulance and shifted the mother and child to the District Maternity and Children’s Hospital here.

District Surgeon Mahendra told The Hindu that both the mother and child are healthy, safe and receiving treatment at the hospital.
