Former Union Minister and Chickballapur MP M. Veerappa Moily on Saturday said that Chickballapur is the ideal location to set up the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Karnataka.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a progress review meeting on the zilla panchayat premises on Sunday, Mr. Moily said he will make all efforts to establish the institution in Chickballapur.

Around 200 acres of land had been acquired for the Advanced Technology and Research Centre of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) at Muddenahalli, the birth place of M. Visweswaraya, Mr. Moily said.

In addition to this, 300 acres would be made available for the IIT, he said.

The closeness to the Kempegowda International Airport at Devanahalli makes the district an ideal location as connectivity is a major prerequisite, he opined.

The names of several areas are being mentioned to establish the premier technological institute ever since Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced an IIT for Karnataka in the 2015-16 budget proposals.
