Over 500 MRPS activists held

March 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated September 30, 2016 09:47 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Over 500 activists of Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi were arrested at different locations around the Assembly, when they tried to take out ‘Chalo Assembly’ here on Wednesday.

The MRPS had earlier called for ‘Chalo Assembly’ to showcase their single point agenda of achieving categorisation of SCs. They have been demanding that the Assembly pass a resolution in favour of categorisation of SCs and the same be forwarded to the Parliament. Considering the security issues arising out of simultaneous conduct of AP and Telangana Legislatures, the police did not wish to take any chance of a security breach and hence denied permission.

But even as the programme was on at the designated place outside Indira Park, groups of activists managed to sneak in close to the Assembly . In all, over a dozen batches of agitators were arrested. An all-women group numbering about 21 were picked up near Ravindra Bharathi close to Gate One used by the Chief Minister to enter the portals of the Assembly. Founder president of MRPS Manda Krishna Madiga was picked up from a hotel near Lakdikapul.
