Chain snatched

A case of chain snatching has been reported from Paniyadi area here on Tuesday.

According to the Udupi Town Police, Shyamala Upadhyaya (53) was walking towards a store, when two unidentified persons came on a black motorcycle and stopped by her side at around 3.30 p.m. near Paniyadi Junction.

One of them spoke to her in Hindi. Even as she was about to respond, the other person snatched her gold mangalsutra. Both of them later sped away on the motorcycle. The value of the ornament snatched has been estimated at Rs. 66,000.

A case has been registered and investigations are on, the police said. Sources in the Police Department said that they had got the CCTV footage of the motorcycle and the two persons and are in the process of identifying both.
