‘BJP has no moral right to speak on the issue of corruption’

State president of the Janata Dal(Secular) H.D. Kumaraswamy has said that the both the Union and State governments have become insensitive towards the plight of farmers in the drought-affected areas of the State.

He was speaking at a convention of JD(S) activists here on Sunday.

Mr. Kumaraswamy expressed displeasure that both the governments were dilly-dallying over the issue of waiving loans borrowed by farmers in drought-hit areas from banks. He pressed the State government to direct the officials to take up the work of dredging tanks and lakes in drought-affected areas with the funds available under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act to promote income and employment generation activities and thereby prevent exodus of youths from these villages to urban areas in search of jobs.

He ridiculed the discussion held at the meeting of the State Executive committee of the BJP in Mysuru on the corruption prevailing in the Congress rule in the State. During the BJP rule in the State, its top leaders were indulged in amassing wealth by misusing power, he said, adding that they don’t have any moral right to speak over the issue of corruption.

Mr. Kumaraswamy said that serious charges of nepotism and corruption were levelled against many Ministers in the present Congress government. The people of the State are disillusioned over the failure by both the national parties in providing corruption-free governance, he said.

Commenting on the factional feud in the State BJP, Mr. Kumaraswamy said that some Ministers in the National Democratic Alliance government at the Centre— who are from Karnataka— were fuelling the dissidence activities to fulfil their selfish ends.

Sharada Poorya Naik, MLA for Shivamogga Rural and party district unit president H.N. Niranjan were present.

Earlier in the day, Mr. Kumaraswamy participated in a homa held at a temple in Gaanimakki village and visited Syed Sadath Dargah-Bhootaraya Chowdeshwari temple in Hanagerekatte village.
