Centre should release Rs. 600 crore for flood-relief: Siddaramaiah

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday appealed to the Centre to release Rs. 600 crore for flood-relief works.

The damage due to excess rainfall in the State is estimated at Rs. 2,724 crore and the State is seeking financial support of Rs. 600 crore under the Centre’s Calamity Relief Fund to rebuild the lives of the people affected by the natural calamity, he said, after holding discussions with the Central team that visited rain-affected areas.

Drought

At the same time, there is drought in 80 taluks and the government has appealed to the Centre to send a separate team to study the situation in affected areas.

The loss from the drought has been put at Rs.1,058 crore.
