Siddaganga Institute of Technology (SIT) is one of the 10 institutions in the country and one of the three in the State selected by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development for the establishment of the Centre of Excellence under the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme supported by World Bank, according to Director of Siddaganga Institute of Technology M.N. Channabasappa.
He told presspersons here on Saturday that the Siddaganga Institute of Technology would get a grant of Rs. 5 crore for the establishment of the Centre of Excellence in Applied Research and Nanotechnology.
Siddaganga Institute of Technology will offer M.Tech in Power Electronics from the academic year 2013-14.
Mr. Channabasappa informed presspersons that students of Mechanical Engineering branch in SIT, Gurudeep R. and Aravind Tiwari have got placement during the campus interview in BrahMos Aerospace Private Ltd.
Mr. Channabasappa said the SIT is celebrating its golden jubilee during 2013-14 and the formal inauguration of the celebrations would be held in September.
As part of the golden jubilee celebrations, an international conference would be held and topics to be discussed include ‘Advanced Materials, Manufacturing Management and Thermal Science’ and ‘Nanotechnology in Construction’.
Laurels for college
Mr. Channabasappa said students from SIT stood 6th in the technical presentation category in the international aero modelling competition ‘SAE Aero Design 2013’ held at Fort Worth, Texas, U.S. from March 15 to 17. Seventy-five teams from technical institutions from across the world, including Canada, Brazil, Poland and U.S. participated in the competition and 12 teams from India, including IIT Kanpur and NIT Jamshedpur took part.
SIT principal Shivakumaraiah and SIT Dean Basavarajaiah were among those present.
