The Union government, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has completely failed in protecting the interests of the common man and the farmers, but the Congress government in the State has launched several schemes for the welfare of people, farmers, women and the aged, All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary K.C. Venugopal has said.

Speaking after taking part in a door-to-door campaign of the party in Davangere on Tuesday, he said that the party has launched a unique programme to reach every voter in the State and bring to his notice the achievements of the Congress government in the last four-and-a-half years. If all the district leaders implement the campaign systematically, the party would once again come to power with a full majority. He also called upon the party workers and the leaders to work in tandem for the victory of all the candidates of the party.

MLA Shamnur Shivshankarappa said that the Congress has been striving for the welfare of the common man for the past several decades, but communal forces are trying to divide people on the basis of caste to come to power. Minister for Horticulture and district in-charge S.S. Mallikarjun and KPCC member D. Basavaraj were present.

Memorandum

In Chitradurga, KPCC member B. Thippeswamy and the former MLA A.V. Umapathi submitted a memorandum to Mr. Venugopal alleging that District Congress Committee president Fathyrajan should be removed from his post as his appointment is against the norms of the KPCC.

The supporters Mr. Umapathi sought ticket for the Chitradurga Assembly segment for him as he was a senior leader of the party and has a strong hold on the constituency. They alleged that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has kept some appointments to boards and corporations pending even after instructions from AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi.

Responding to the memorandum, Mr. Venugopal said that the issue of pending nominations to boards and corporations would be brought to the notice of AICC president Sonia Gandhi.

Later, Mr. Venugopal took part in the door-to-door campaign in different localities and addressed the party workers.

MP B.N. Chandrappa and Minister for Social Welfare H. Anjaneya were present.
