Spelling more trouble for disgruntled BJP leader and former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, CBI on Wednesday ordered issue of summons to him, three of his family members and others in the illegal mining kickback case being probed by it.
CBI court judge Venkata Sundarshan, who ordered issue of summons on November 16, directed all of them to be present in court on December 12.
On October 16, CBI had filed a charge sheet before the special court against Mr Yeddyurappa, his sons B Y Vijayendra and B Y Raghavendra, son-in-law R N Sohan Kumar, former minister Krishnaiah Setty, the CEO & Senior Vice-President of a Bellary-based private steel company, a Shimoga-based Trust and five Bellary-based private companies for alleged abuse of official position and corruption.
They were charged under IPC sections, including 120-B (conspiracy) and 420 (cheating) as also under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and Karnataka Land (Restriction on) Transfer Act.
Mr Yeddyurappa resigned as Chief Minister in July last year after the Lokatyuka report on illegal mining indicted him following which a spate of corruption and land denotification cases have been filed against him.
The charge sheet said the accused had hatched a conspiracy during 2009-10 as per which the two sons and son-in-law of Mr Yeddyurappa purchased for Rs 40 lakh a land which was notified for acquisition by the government by violating various laws.
The land was denotified from acquisition by Mr Yeddyurappa by abusing his position as the Chief Minister then in violation of several rules, it charged.
Later the land was sold at an “exorbitant” rate of Rs 20 crore to a Bellary-based private company though the guidance value of the land was Rs 1.5 crore
