CBI probe sought into lottery scam

Shobha Karandlaje, Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP, on Monday demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the lottery scam that has led to the suspension of a senior police officer of IGP rank.

Addressing presspersons here, Mr. Karandlaje alleged that besides influential politicians, nearly 38 police officers were involved in the scam. What had been unearthed so far was the mere surface of the scam and its roots ran deeper, she said.

Since top politicians and police officers were involved, it was not possible for the Criminal Investigation Department to investigate the scam impartially. The only way the truth was emerge was by handing over the probe to the CBI, Ms. Karandlaje said.
