Several students of Maharani’s Science College in Mysuru reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has hitherto steered clear of the Cauvery conflict between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, through email on Friday.
More than 400 students sent individual emails to Mr. Modi expressing their anguish and confusion over the Supreme Court's directive to release water to Tamil Nadu.
“The Prime Minister is known to be accessible through the digital medium. So, the students sent emails to Mr. Modi, sharing their dilemma over the Cauvery issue and seeking his intervention,” said Raghu S.P., an independent film-maker, who organised the email campaign.
“We are aware that there is no water in our reservoir. At this juncture the hard fact to understand is that if we share water with other state then we will not be having enough water to serve the drinking purpose,” read the email sent to the Prime Minister.
Swathi, a student of Maharani's Science College, said the students had missed many classes due to Cauvery agitation. Another student Harshitha said the students will find it difficult to face the examinations, if the lecturers are unable to finish the portions in time.
The students, who clicked on the “Write to the Prime Minister” option on http://www.pmindia.gov.in/en/ to send their mails, received individual acknowledgment to all the mails that were sent, said Mr. Raghu.
