'Cauvery final award can’t be notified now'

December 26, 2012 11:07 am | Updated November 17, 2021 06:05 am IST - GULBARGA:

The former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda has said that the Union Government cannot notify the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal’s final award till all Special Leave Petitions (SLPs) pending before the Supreme Court regarding the sharing of the Cauvery waters are disposed of.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Mr. Deve Gowda said that there is a precedent in the Union Government notifying the final award of the Bachchawat Tribunal Award on sharing the Krishna waters only after the disposal of all pending petitions before the Supreme Court. “The same rule should be applied in the case of notifying the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal,” he said.

Mr. Deve Gowda said that during his meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh he made the same demand and cautioned the Union Government against notifying the final award before the disposal of pending petitions.
