The Mandya west police have registered a case against a person on the charges of submitting forged documents for obtaining passport.
Acting on an alert by the Regional Passport Office, the police booked a case against the accused, identified as Khalander Badrul Muneer, and launched an investigation to trace him.
The accused, who was residing near fourth cross off Old M.C. Road in 2003, had produced forged and fake documents to the passport office.
The crime came to light recently during the verification of records. “We have launched a probe to trace the accused,” T.J. Udesha, Dy. SP, Mandya Subdivision, told The Hindu.
A case has been registered under Sections 468 (Forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (Using as genuine a forged document) of the IPC, and certain provisions of the Passport Act 1967 against the accused.
