The police have booked a case against the former Minister and BJP leader S.A. Ramdas on Friday, following a complaint from the woman who accused him of exploiting her.
The woman met Police Commissioner M.A. Saleem at his office on Friday evening and lodged the complaint.
Acting upon this, the Saraswathipuram police registered a case against Mr. Ramdas, who had allegedly attempted to commit suicide on Tuesday night following the woman’s charges.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) A.N. Rajanna told The Hindu that an FIR had been registered against Mr. Ramdas based on the complaint.
Mr. Ramdas has been booked under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder); 417 (cheating); and 506 (criminal intimidation). “Srikant Das, the brother of Mr. Ramdas, has also been booked under section 506,” Mr. Rajanna said.
The jurisdictional police would conduct the investigation. The woman has also sought police protection, he added.
The Kuvempunagar police have recorded Mr. Ramdas’s statement.
The details of his statement have yet to be disclosed.
Mr. Ramdas was taken off the ventilator on Thursday. He was shifted to a special ward at Apollo BGS Hospital from its intensive care unit as his health improved. He is likely to be discharged soon.
