A disproportionate assets case was filed against Housing Minister V. Somanna in the Lokayukta court on Friday, hours after a complaint filed against him by another person on the same charge was withdrawn.
Lingadalli Chetan Kumar, Bangalore-based businessman, had filed a private complaint against Mr. Somanna in December 2012, but he withdrew the complaint on Friday.
Soon after this, another complaint on the same charge was filed by one Ramakrishna in the Lokayukta court through advocate N. Jagadeesha, who represented Mr. Chetan Kumar earlier.
The court posted the matter for further hearing next week.
According to the complaint, Mr. Somanna owns disproportionate assets worth Rs. 12 crore.
It is alleged that Mr. Somanna submitted a false declaration before the Lokayukta and there were discrepancies in the declaration made by him before the Election Commission.
Taking expenditure into consideration, including loans, Mr. Somanna’s annual income should have been Rs. 2.26 crore during 2012. However, the documents suggested that he amassed assets worth Rs. 17 crore during the period, and the disproportionate assets would come up to around Rs. 12 crore, the complaint said.
