Case against Independent for poll code breach

The police have registered a case against Independent candidate Anandswamy Gaddadevarmath after ascertaining that he had mobilised 400 people and used 50 to 60 vehicles for an election campaign outside his house on Club Road here on the last day of filing nominations without obtaining permission, which is a violation of the model code of conduct. The case was registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by Sector Officer Raju Subray Bhandari. Two vehicles had been seized, said Priyanka Mary Francis, city corporation Commissioner and Returning Officer for Belgaum Rural Assembly constituency, here on Friday.

Liquor seized

The Excise police, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police S.A. Agadi and inspector N.V. Barmani, raided a house in B.K. Kangrali village on the outskirts of the city and seized illegally stored liquor worth Rs. 28,800 on Thursday night. The house belongs to Suresh Ramappa Lamani, who has been arrested.

The police found 20 boxes of brandy marked ‘for sale in Goa’ there.
