Case against 34 for damaging govt. buses

April 23, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - Yadgir:

The police, on Friday, registered a case against 34 people in connection with damaging government buses and blocking the Bidar-Srirangapatna State highway over an hour near Mudbul cross in Shahapur taluk of Yadgir district on Thursday.

As many as two passengers, including a woman, were injured when residents of Mudbul village threw stones at buses and damaged window panes demanding drinking water.

Traffic movement was completely disrupted for over an hour and the police had to resort to a mild lathicharge to disperse the mob.

The protesters alleged that they were facing a severe drinking water crisis after an open well, which was the only source of drinking water, went dry and no action was taken by the officials despite several reminders.

They withdrew the protest and removed blockades after Ramesh Babu Halu, Shahapur tahasildar, promised to solve the problem.
