They conduct door-to-door visits amid Holi fervour

Candidates of major political parties, amid Holi fervour on Sunday, conducted roadshows and door-to-door visits seeking votes across the State.

Conspicuous among them was Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal, who campaigned in the Chickballapur Lok Sabha constituency from where Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas M. Veerappa Moily will be contesting as the Congress candidate. Mr. Kejriwal said Mr. Moily was mired in several controversies.

BJP general secretary Ananth Kumar, contesting in the Bangalore South Lok Sabha constituency, campaigned in the Vijayanagar Assembly constituency along with MLCs V. Somanna and Ashwath Narayana. Reacting to Congress candidate Nandan Nilekani’s statement questioning his contributions to the city, Mr. Ananth Kumar said people know his contributions for the past 18 years and he does not need any certificate from the Infosys co-founder, who entered politics a week ago.

Mr. Nilekani travelled in neighbouring the Govindarajanagar Assembly constituency, starting his roadshow at 6 a.m. Accompanied by local MLA Priya Krishna, met morning walkers as well.

Congress candidate for Bangalore Central Rizwan Arshad held a roadshow in the Shanthinagar Assembly constituency along with local MLA N.A. Haris and another in Nagavara in Sarvagna Nagar Assembly constituency along with Home Minister K.J. George.

In Shimoga

In Shimoga, the BJP heavyweight B.S. Yeddyurappa along with his followers met voters at their residences. Some voters from economically weaker sections poured out their grievances.

Mysore MP A.H. Vishwanath, who has been re-nominated by the Congress, held a roadshow in the city, soliciting votes. On the other hand, BJP nominee Pratap Simha kick-started his campaign by offering puja to goddess Chamundeshwari and was accompanied by MLC G. Madhusudhan.
