B.R. Ambedkar Development Corporation chairperson Mallajamma has said that the government has been appealed to cancel committees headed by MLAs to select beneficiaries for different schemes of the corporation.

Addressing presspersons here on Saturday, she said that there were 14 schemes under the corporation and MLAs had been given the responsibility of selecting beneficiaries. But, it had come to notice of the corporation that these committees had failed to choose actual beneficiaries and facilities under the schemes were being misused. “A proposal had been sent to the State government seeking action,” Ms. Mallajamma said.

In a recent meeting at Bengaluru, the corporation decided not to take security deposit from beneficiaries who obtained loans under different schemes.

There are complaints that middlemen are exploiting beneficiaries by promising them loans and other facilities, so the officers had been instructed to maintain transparency while choosing beneficiaries.

The corporation had also noticed that the contractors who had taken up drilling of borewells under the Ganga Kalyan scheme were misguiding it by providing bogus information.

They are drilling borewells to a depth of 300 ft and claiming bills for a depth of 800 ft. There are plans to install GPS system to borewells machines to exactly know their depth.

Ms. Mallajamma said that a proposal had been submitted to the State government to release Rs. 2,500 crore to the corporation.
