Specialists from the Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Institute for the Physically Handicapped, New Delhi, and from Chennai and Hyderabad will be in Mysore on May 1 and 2 to assess persons with disabilities and take steps to provide them with necessary rehabilitative aids for free.
The doctors will screen persons with disabilities at the Comprehensive Rehabilitation Camp, being organised for the first time in Mysore at the behest of the District Disabled Rehabilitation Centre.
The details will be collected at the camp and steps taken to provide suitable aids.
The district administration, the Department for the Empowerment of Differently Abled and Senior Citizens, DDRC and Indian Red Cross Society, Mysore, are supporting the camp. It will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Government School for the Blind and the Government School for Deaf and Dumb on New Bamboo Bazaar Road at Tilak Nagar.
Deputy Commissioner P.S. Vastrad told presspersons here on Monday that the camp had been scheduled for two days to facilitate the persons with disabilities from all taluks of the district to make use of the opportunity.
Persons with disabilities from Mysore Urban and Mysore Rural, Nanjangud and Periyapatna taluks can attend the camp on May 1, while those from Hunsur, K.R. Nagar, H.D. Kote and T. Narsipur taluks can do so on May 2, according to him. Aids worth Rs. 6 lakh had been distributed to the needy during the camp in Bangalore recently, he added. The camp has arranged to get assessment details of beneficiaries to provide wheelchairs, tricycles, artificial limbs and hands, plastic callipers and special education kits etc depending on the disability.
Those wishing to avail themselves of the benefits at the camp should bring the original and photocopy of the disability ID card issued by the State government or medical certificate; photograph showing deformities (four copies), income certificate and Aadhaar card or ration card, the organisers said.
