A 22-year-old call centre employee from Mumbai was raped and killed allegedly by her boyfriend on Wednesday.
The accused and his three friends had taken her from Mumbai to Ratnagiri on the pretext of a picnic. After spending a few hours in a hotel in Ratnagiri, the accused raped and killed her. He and his associates later stuffed the body in a suitcase and brought it by taxi to Belagavi. They threw the suitcase and returned to Ratnagiri.
The driver of the taxi got suspicious about the missing suitcase and asked them what happened. The four friends, who were drunk, revealed everything to the driver who then alerted the Ratnagiri police.
The Ratnagiri police, in turn, alerted the Belagavi police, who found the suitcase stuffed with the body under a bridge on the Rani Channamma University campus in Belagavi taluk.
Meanwhile, Ratnagiri police arrested two of the accused and brought them to Belagavi by night.
The victim hailed from Nagpur and was working in the Mumbai call centre for three years. She had developed feelings for her colleague and he had asked her out, the police said. The victim’s family has been informed, police sources said.
